Wertzbaugher Services began in 2012 when Jason and Lisa Wertzbaugher opened a welding and fabrication business to provide commercial trailer repair services to local companies. Prior to that Jason had spent several years working on large farms in the agricultural industry, which is where he developed his welding skills.

At first, Wertzbaugher Services focused on trailer repair for one or two local companies, but as the company grew and became more well-known, they picked up customers in a variety of industries including concrete construction, agriculture, commercial property, manufacturing, and many more.

As the company grew, capital investments were made to expand into various types of welding – MIG for carbon steel, TIG for stainless, aluminum, and galvanized steel. They also added the capability to weld on-site at customer locations with the addition of portable welders. Fabrication projects expanded from commercial trailer repair to building structures, ag implement repair, truss work, and custom fabrication.

In 2016, Wertzbaugher Services started providing freight services for some fabrication customers. The trucking side of the business has grown to half of the annual revenue. The company now provides trucking services across Iowa with a semi and dry van or roll-tarp flat bed. The company can also take loads under 14,000 lbs outside of the state, and provides expedite services upon request.

The company is still privately owned by the Wertzbaughers, and occupies about 4,000 square feet right outside of West Liberty conveniently located 15 miles east of Iowa City.
